Ask early, even if your plans are unfinished

You can start the conversation before choosing a song or deciding how elaborate your first dance should be. An introductory lesson gives you a chance to explore those choices and find out what you would like to work on.

There is no useful single lesson count for every couple. Your goals, experience, schedule and practice time all affect the plan. At Spotlight, your instructor can recommend lessons with your wedding date and budget in mind.

Look at the weeks you can actually use

Start with the wedding date, then look backward through your calendar. Mark travel, work commitments and wedding activities that will make a week difficult. Share those constraints when you ask about lessons.

Leave yourself room to practice between visits. Several appointments squeezed into the final days may be harder to fit around everything else than lessons spread through weeks when you have more attention to give them. Discuss the options with your instructor rather than assuming a schedule is available.

Settle decisions in a sensible order

Begin with how you want the dance to feel. Then choose the music and decide whether you want a few comfortable movements or a more structured routine. Once you have a starting point, practice it before adding more.

Closer to the wedding, check the practical details: the exact recording, how you will enter the floor, what your clothes allow and how the dance will finish. Try to leave time to adjust something you discover in rehearsal.

If the wedding is close, say so

Do not spend your remaining time worrying that you should have started earlier. Tell us the date and what you hope to achieve. Ask about current lesson availability and keep the conversation focused on a realistic starting point.

If time is limited, you may prefer to concentrate on moving together, a comfortable beginning and a clear ending instead of a long routine. Your instructor can help you decide what to prioritize. Availability and a suitable lesson plan need to be discussed; an inquiry is not a confirmed booking.
